Balsamic vinegar is one of the most popular and widespread dressings in our gastronomic tradition: it can be used to give flavor to any type of dish, from savory to sweet, but also as a medicine and curative remedy for various problems of the body and skin. Modena is the cradle of this unique product.

One of the most important events of the year concerning the enhancement and promotion of products from the Italian territory will be held in the Emilia region. On September 27, food booths will be set up to give all visitors, both locals and foreign tourists, the opportunity to taste the incredible flavor of the real Balsamic Vinegar of Modena PGI and Traditional Balsamic Vinegar PDO.

Acetaie Aperte, this is the name of this festival of taste and culture, which with its ninth edition now in 2020 has long represented a regular meeting at the end of September for all fans and food lovers.

The two Consortia, which have been organizing this delightful exhibition for a long time, have only one goal in their hearts: to make known the history and quality of this product, not only used as food, all over the world. Why is this such an important task?

Balsamic Vinegar of Modena: the real black gold of our peninsula

Taste Balsamic Vinegar of Modena

The refined vinegar of the must from the Emilia area, from which the fabulous Modenese product comes as now everybody knows thanks to advertising, was born when Italy was still one of the many territories that were included in the maps of the Roman Empire.

The ancients also mention this product in their writings, praising its copious qualities. But it was in medieval times that Modena made itself known for its production and all the lords of the nearby lands began to send missives to get some of this phenomenal vinegar which, as they say, manages to cure many diseases and makes sweet what is bitter.

Here are some of the amazing benefits of the Balsamic Vinegar of Modena:

  • It reduces blood pressure
  • It has disinfectant properties and is also an astringent, to the delight of people obsessed with skincare (excellent as an ingredient for a do-it-yourself facial mask)
  • It can be applied to wounds to kill bacteria
  • It is chock full of polyphenols which have an antioxidant effect
  • It helps digestion
  • It helps insulin and cholesterol levels stay low
  • It tastes great and greatly improves the flavor of almost any food, even those you would never think about
