Description
TROPEA ONION PGI
Tropea Red Onion, formerly imported by the Phoenicians, is still grown in Calabria. Its oval shape, its sweetness and its precious characteristics, are due to the particularly stable microclimate in the winter period, without temperature changes due to the mild action exerted by the proximity of the sea, and the fresh and muddy soils.
The production area of the red onion of Tropea PGI affects the medium-high Tyrrhenian coast of Calabria and includes several municipalities in the province of Cosenza, Catanzaro and Vibo Valentia, in the Calabria region.
